*EXCLUSIVE* - Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Interview PDF Print E-mail
This is a Watotron Exclusive Interview with Bethesda Softworks regarding Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion

Watotron: Hi Pete,
Bethesda Softworks: Hi

Watotron: What features (if any) where you disappointed of in Morrowind that you
are going to exclude or include in Elder Scrolls IV?

Bethesda Softworks: I don't think there was reallly anything we were disappointed in. Obviously there are areas we felt we could improve, and so those are being addressed in Oblivion. The key ones are combat and AI. There are lots of other areas getting overhauled or tweaked or improved, but those two are probably the two biggest.

Watotron: Some people criticised the engine for being slow and buggy, are you
changing the engine or keeping the same engine?

Bethesda Softworks: Well, first I don't think Morrowind had a buggy engine or was slow. It was, and is, a very demanding game. You had to have a good system and video card to run it well, and things like what video card drivers you have installed can make a huge difference in performance.

Watotron: Are you going to keep the game free roaming?

Bethesda Softworks: Absolutely. Letting the player go where they want and do what they want is what The Elder Scrolls is all about.

Watotron: Are you using any key elements that have impressed you or influenced you
out of other games?

Bethesda Softworks: Certainly. We've looked at a lot of games for various things they do - whether it's combat, dialogue, or exploration. You see things that other people have done or tried and get a good idea of how to do something or, perhaps, how not to do it. So, it may be a first-person shooter that had a cool interface feature, or a game like The Sims that had good AI for it's NPCs, or an RPG that had a good way to handle inventory...any number of things.

Watotron: What do you believe Elder Scrolls IV can achieve that no other RPG has
achieved before/

Bethesda Softworks: Well, I think in general what each Elder Scrolls game tries to achieve is to push the boundaries of what an RPG can do. We offer freeform roleplaying on a scale that nobody else really does.

Watotron: Will Elder Scrolls IV have any online features?

Bethesda Softworks: It won't have any kind of multiplayer. We will have the TES CS again that will be even more powerful for the Mod community to use and play with.

Watotron: Thank's pete
